From the Co-ordinator
Wolves in Action has been over a year in the making, with Head Chaplain Fr Alan Wong SJ and myself meeting in July of 2019, to discuss upcoming immersions with Two Wolves Abroad (a Sydney based youth Immersion Program) and the possibility of starting a Catholic Leadership Program in Adelaide. Fast track to the end of March 2020 when Fr Wong SJ got the ball rolling and we both started to seek expressions of interest for the leadership program, which would be based on Ignatian spirituality.
Within a week, we had 25 people interested in the program, and therefore we began creating the group’s structure and plans for the year. This was however, put to a halt with Coronavirus making itself more prominent in our society. With this social change, Fr Wong SJ and I decided to hold conference calls with the interested people to discuss how they were going with the virus knocking on their doors.

The first call saw the group foster the name ‘Wolves in Action’ based upon St. Ignatius of Loyola’s family crest, in which his family used to feed wolves which would come to his family’s house many centuries before he was born. Therefore ‘Wolves’ felt like a fitting name, ‘Action’ simply came from the fact that the group wanted to take action in the wider community both home and abroad, and therefore the name ‘Wolves in Action’ was fostered. The group has strengthened over the year that has been.

From the Head Chaplain
Before the onset of COVID, Noreena Hertz an academic labelled loneliness to be the defining issue of this century. Part of our antidote for our young adults lies in the formation of this community. Apart from all the other activities (and there are many), we come together to have meaningful conversations or spiritual conversations in Jesuitical parlance, around topics that matter. One of the defining conversations was sitting around at Coorong, at approx. 11.30pm talking about life’s challenges. This conversation helped all of us connect in deeper and real ways which very much encompasses the goals of the group.
What we do
As a Young Adult Ministry under the Saint Ignatius Norwood Parish, there are three sections to the groups goals, all of which bring with it different 'Action' that the group is taking in order to achieve these goals:

1. Leadership

The group strives to develop as leaders of the community giving opportunities to build skills and put them into practice. We hold workshops internally to help our members upskill for different leadership situations. Some examples of these include how to listen properly and how to effectively lead small and larger group settings for discussion and reflection. These workshops help our members prepare for Schools Involvement; leading days based on Spirituality and Formation for school students. This amongst other opportunities is how the group aims to develop leadership.

2. Service

Serving the community around us is of utmost importance as a foundation of the group. In addition to the Schools Involvement, the group also offers service to the community wherever our help can be used. The group also plans to offer immersion experiences allowing for direct hands-on service to those most in need.

3. Spirituality/Team Bonding

Building a safe and supportive environment where bonds with self and others can flourish is at the core of the group. Every activity and event part of the group allows for friendships to be formed and a chance to develop greater sense of self. Some of the Team Bonding and Spirituality focused activities within the group include:

- Treks and Retreats
- Monthly catch ups
- Days at the Den
